Mitigating the DEI backslide

Hello!

A lot can happen in just a few weeks. During Rework Work’s annual office closure, kids headed back to school and parents universally celebrated the relaunch of routines and schedules. We also witnessed Vice President Kamala Harris accept the Democratic presidential nomination, making her the first Black woman in history to run for the highest office in our country. It’s amazing what can change in 21 days.

Unfortunately, there was also a lot that didn’t change. We are still being told that DEI is unnecessary. In fact, some are falsely arguing that DEI initiatives actually exacerbate prejudices. While it’s true that some programs are ineffective due to poor development and execution, the larger issue is all of the misinformation about what DEI actually is. As a result, people are either being “educated” by the uneducated or, worse, intentionally led astray by those with their own agendas.

When it comes to understanding DEI and fostering inclusion in the workplace, we can’t be complacent. If you are tired of being gaslit, talked down to, or ignored when it comes to the necessary DEI conversations at work, I encourage you to take action. Our mission at Rework Work is to equip you to do just that.

Our Unconscious Inclusion course has helped organizational leaders find the knowledge, confidence, and practical strategies necessary to cultivate real change. Our monthly Open Discussion have also empowered people at all levels to understand and address the most current issues facing DEI advocated today. In addition, as a Workspace member you have access to so many free resources and tools that can also help you know how to begin. (Those tools can also be a little overwhelming so see our offer below.)

As you continue to follow the conversations happening around DEI, ask questions and dig deeper. When you’re ready to make a move towards greater inclusion in your workplace, know that we’ll be here for you every step of the way.

With appreciation,

Stacey Gordon, MBA
Rework Work CEO

When crisis strikes, how can organizations respond the “right” way?

It goes without saying that we’re currently living through some pretty unprecedented events – events that impact both your customers and your employees. How should your organization respond? While there is no one-size-fits-all answer, here are some areas to focus on when finding the response that best reflects your organization’s values.

Not sure what your company’s values are? If so, how do you approach a potentially uncomfortable conversation that may involve polarizing issues and events? Our 100K Conversations Challenge was created specifically for these kinds of discussions. There you’ll find education, encouragement and resources to help you take that bold first step towards a more inclusive workplace.

Unconscious Inclusion — September Open Discussion Lab
September 25; 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET

You may have noticed that its REALLY difficult to have a conversation right now. Sides have been drawn, topics are loaded and simply asking someone how their weekend went can turn into a debate of epic proportions. Some of that has to do with biases vs. preferences because many of us don’t know the difference between them. Some of it has to do with the way we view the world through our own lens, without thought for others. So how do you work with people or manage those who have different perspectives than you? For a lively discussion, suggestions from your peers and of course, solutions from Stacey, join us for our next open discussion.
