Know Better. Do Better.

Hello!

The UK is wrapping up its October observance of Black History Month this week. Having had the chance to work with Macquarie AirFinance, a subsidiary of the UK-based Macquarie Group, I want to highlight how the global financial services group celebrated with thoughtful intent and purpose. This issue’s Simply Good shares how the Macquarie Group endeavored to create a safe space for hard conversations and a culture of allyship.

October is also Global Diversity Awareness Month, designed to recognize the innumerable benefits of diversity in our cultures, workplaces, and everyday lives. In recognizing those positive impacts, our eyes may also be opened to the challenges different people groups still face today. My latest Simply Diversity article explores how a recent change in Virgin Atlantic’s policies reminded me of why it’s so important for us to train ourselves to recognize the plight of others.

Look out Los Angeles — the Talent Connect 2022 conference is here! I have the opportunity to participate in this year’s event, which is a mix of live and pre-recorded content made available from October 25 – 27, as well as after the event. Check out What’s Happening for details. For those who were able to attend my roundtable discussion in person, I hope you will enjoy the free copy of my book that each attendee received.

We’re also excited to share that Talent Connect is offering my course, Addressing Unconscious Bias as a Leader, for free from October 7 through November 30. If you or your team haven’t had a chance to take it, now is your chance to do so for free.

With appreciation,

Stacey Gordon, MBA

Celebrating Black History Month: Working Towards a More Equitable Future

Against the backdrop of recent political and social movements, the global financial group Macquarie has strengthened its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) focus on racial equity, making this year’s Black History Month celebration more impactful than ever.

How Virgin Airlines is role modeling DEI (and you can too)

Most of us don’t think about how other groups are ostracized or discriminated against unless it directly affects us. However, if we lead people or want to be part of an inclusive workplace culture, we have to train ourselves to think differently.

If you are in North or Latin America, join us on October 26-27 for our remaining sessions.

If you are in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa, join us from October 26-28.
